Halsey's cover of Love Yourself for Australian radio channel Triple J was certainly different.
Initially, it got a lot of hate from people, but then many started liking it.
Actually, the cover is pretty good, but the only thing that gets people is that Halsey chose to go for a significantly stronger chorus (in terms of language) than the original.
I suppose that got to me too, in the last minute.

Personally, the reason I first started liking the original version was that it was so clever. It was a diss track that really didn't have strong language, but still retained it's awesomeness.
Halsey's choice to go for expletives really made the cover notable, though. Her unconventional voice added to the moodiness of the track. Her voice also came under criticism, but I think if you listen to some of her own stuff, you'll see that she really makes it work for her.

Do I prefer the original? Yes.
But, do I dislike Halsey's cover? Definitely not.
